This week’s exercise is to decide on your goals-not just your financial goals, but also your everyday life goals. Most goals in our life require some sort of financing. For example if your goal is to run your first 5K, you might need new running shoes, a training program, and fees for the race. That could easily add up to a couple of hundred dollars. Daydreaming about your goals can be fun, but actually having the financial power to see your dreams become reality is thrilling and exciting. This first step to accomplish your goals is to write them down. Write down every goal you can think of-it could be going on vacation, signing your child up to play a sport, eating healthy, buying a house, getting a new job, or putting money into retirement. Check our Facebook page during the week for tips about setting your goals. We want to hear about your goals-be sure to post every week in the Financial Fitness Facebook Group to be eligible to receive our $100 VISA Gift Card at the end of the four-week challenge.
Tips For the Week
- Tip#1: Be specific about your goals-instead of writing “going on vacation”-write down where you want to go or instead of writing “getting a new job” write down what kind of job you want. Giving your goals a clear picture helps your feel motivated to achieve.
- Tip#2: Divide your goals into 3 lists
Intermediate (in the next 3-7years): Examples-getting married, having a child, or buying a new car.
Long-term (in 7+ years): Examples-buying a house, saving for retirement or a child’s college education.
- Tip#3: Prioritize your goals-focus on your #1 goal in each category. Trying to accomplish all of your goals at one time can be overwhelming and unrealistic. Achieving one goal at a time can keep you motivated and focused.
- Tip#4: Write your goals on a post it in your office, your wallet, your car, or even your bathroom mirror. Make it visible to you in order to draw your attention on the goal.
